They tell him everything.

They tell him of the man he used to be, tell him of the countless crimes he's committed, tell him of the people he's harmed, the things he's done. They spare him no details and they make sure he listens, make sure that yes, he remembers everything.

They say that he needs to know, should be aware of what he's defending, of what he's trying to save.

Because yes, to them Koschei isn't a 'he' at all, he is a thing, a possession that's escaped their grasp.

Theta shakes his head, says that it's not true, it's not right. He mutters and pleads and tells them that they have it wrong, that Koschei couldn't be the man they're talking about.

They laugh, a cruel sound, not soft, not quiet and comforting like a laugh should be. They laugh and his stomach churns because they don't let him believe, they force the images into his mind whether he wants them or not.

But he insists even then, tells them that he can't be this man, this Master of so many terrible things and if he was, that's all it is, a 'was' a 'has been'. It's not life, it's not the way things are now.

Koschei is good, he insists, Koschei is always good.

They shake their heads and correct him, reminding him that here, the man is only known as Soldier.

Verse: A Crime To Be Forgiven (Boomverse)

Theta, all things considered, can occasionally be a very fast learner.

He learns very quickly that panicking when he realizes hat he isn't home only brings bad things. He learns that it brings needles and people he doesn't know who wear false faces and slip on soothing voices that don't ever fit quite right.

He learns that you can leave your room if you're good, though he's never quite sure what that is here. No one acts the same way and if they do, it's not acting at all, it's not living, at least not the way he remembers it.

He learns that smiling faces don't always mean good things and that you always know what to expect from a quiet person.

That's why he sits next to him, why he closes his eyes and enjoys the man's silence. There's something to him, something that's not-quite-familiar and it's in the way he says so little.

Theta likes it though and it's the firs thing he ever says to William.

Everything burns when he walks and the lights are too bright but neither of these things matter. )

Verse: Hospitalverse
darkgathersin: ([MM 1.1] Shot of color)
One day, he thinks to himself, he’s going to understand what it’s like to know something constant, to be assured of where he is sleeping that night, what the ground will feel like underneath his feet.

He dreams of a time like this, a point in his existence where such a thing is found in something besides muddled fancies that don’t even properly portray it. His mind simply doesn’t know how but it tries, it tries so very hard.

There’s a house and he’s supposed to go inside it. There are going to be people there, probably nice ones, and they’ll smile and welcome him with open arms. Questions will be asked; things about his likes and dislikes, all the things he’s capable of, that sort of business. Eventually someone will say something about how tiring the trip must have been for him and if he would like a nap.

He’ll nod and sometimes, when things are good, he’ll smile for them.
But he doesn’t want this. Not in this house and not in any. )

Verse: Seperationverse (early)
darkgathersin: ([MM 1.1] Eye)
The first few days he doesn't see the hand at all. This is all right, he expected as much.

--

The first few days, Theta wanders the TARDIS, loses himself in her and goes as deep as he can. Doing this, he can almost pretend he's home again.

--

The Doctor finds him in the console room, sitting on the floor and humming softly to himself. It's nothing he's familiar with and he asks him about it.

He says it's a song that the TARDIS sang him, he said it's a song that reminds him of home.
When he hears the song softly in his mind that night, Theta feels like he's going to be ill and even though he doesn't want to, he can't help but beg the Doctor's TARDIS to stop. )
